Downloads & Publications

St. Helens Council for Voluntary Service produces a number of publications, which are listed below. Some of the publications will soon be available to read online as PDF documents (Portable Document Files).

"Contact" - Newsletter

We distribute copies of our Contact newsletter to all Affiliated and Associate CVS members as part of the benefits of our paid membership. We also distribute to various libraries, statutory bodies and Councillors throughout the borough. The newsletter is intended to keep the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector and other interested agencies and individuals informed about current third sector news, accessing funding, government legislation, new initiatives, and essentially, local voluntary sector activities.

One venue per page, giving details such as accessibility (ie does the venue have ramps, lifts, loop system or accessible toilets), what facilities the venue has, such as a creche, equipment available, charging policy, transport, catering arrangements and restrictions. Copies can be obtained from Sue Wright, telephone 01744 457107

St Helens Directory of Local Funding and Resources

This directory was compiled by St Helens CVS Fundraising Development Project which was established in August 2000.

By producing a local funding and resources directory, CVS hope to increase the awareness of the needs of local voluntary groups to funders in general, the community as a whole, and especially local businesses. Such agencies can play a vital role in the development of voluntary groups by their encouragement of good practice, and support with various management skills and expertise. Copies can be obtained from Sue Wright, telephone 01744 457107

St Helens Local Compact

Voluntary, community, faith and voluntary sports sector organisations in St Helens make a vital contribution to improve the quality of life in the Borough. They provide a network of support, a means by which the individual can contribute to the community and they assist local government and statutory agencies to engage with the community. They promote citizenship, social inclusion, equality and cohesion in our communities. We recognise that people who belong to such organisations are sufficiently motivated by and committed to the cause or interest that they support, that they will give time and energy, unselfishly in its pursuit. They are enthusiastic citizens of St Helens.

Local government, statutory bodies and the voluntary, community, faith and voluntary sports sector share many aspirations - the inclusive society, a dedication to the welfare of others, support for the development of the community at large and a positive contribution to public life. It is to the benefit of each other and to the people of St Helens for both the voluntary, community, faith and voluntary sports sector organisations, St Helens Borough Council and NHS Halton & St Helens to work together. These shared aspirations must lead to a mutual respect, and a developing relationship.

In order to define this relationship, representatives from organisations across the sectors formed a steering group to contribute to a draft Compact document prior to wider consultation and the adoption of the final document at the Local Strategic Partnership in March 2009.

This Compact creates a starting point, from which we believe we will create an environment in which this partnership will flourish. It is intended to keep this agreement under constant review.

Below you can download or view both the Summary and Full Compact documents.  If you would like to know more about the Compact and what it means to you, we have a training session in July which you can attend, email us at enquiries@sthelenscvs.org.uk or complete the contact us page from this website.
